It’s a big week ahead! 

The CrossFit Open kicks off in just 3 days: we’ll be running the workouts in our Friday Night Lights classes, Saturday sessions and as an alternate in Sunday classes. 

So you may as well get some skin in the game and get signed up! With more levels accommodated and just 3 weeks of workouts, this year is more accessible than ever. 

If you’re not sure how it all works, ready below:

What is the CrossFit Open?⁠
⁠
While the Open is the first round for those looking to go to the CrossFit games, for most of us it’s an opportunity to participate with people from all over the world and test yourself on your own level.⁠
⁠
With with scales and foundations options this year, there's something for everyone: whether you've been training with us for the last 7 years or just 7 days, we’re in it together!⁠

How it works:⁠
⁠
For 3 weeks CrossFit HQ will release a workout each Friday for us all to tackle as a community. You have until Monday to complete the workout and, if you're registered, submit your score online.⁠
⁠
We'll be running the open workout each Saturday
⁠
Feb 26th, Mar 5th & Mar 12th⁠
⁠
Along with the preceding Friday nights and following Sunday as an alternate if you missed the other 2 days. As usual with your coach will take you through everything so you can get the best from your workout.

Whether that news fills you with excitement or dread, we invite you to channel it into your last 2 weeks to prepare for the largest mass participation sporting event ever! 

If you’ve never heard of “The Open”, keep reading to hear what all the fuss is about:

(spoiler alert 🚨: you’re going to do the workouts anyway in class, you may as well get some skin in the game and officially sign up 📝)

What is the CrossFit Open?⁠

New programme - who dis!? A new month means the start of a new programme cycle! 🎉 

All our training programmes are available to view on TrueCoach for all members, so you can see what’s coming up and maximise your time with us. 📈

Do you check the workouts coming up, or prefer the “nice surprise” when you see the whiteboard in the gym? 😳 🙈

Our training involves movements that help build your strength and fitness while ALSO making you more athletic and physically capable. This variety keeps your body guessing and progressing, and your mind engaged and interested for the long term. Of course, everything is adapted to the individual, so you get the right workout for you. 

This month sees us work some longer endurance alongside shorter sharper intervals in the conditioning work, while building some strength, speed and power with plenty of squats, deadlifts and Olympic lifting. With the CrossFit Open kicking off at the end of the month, you’ll see lots of the movements we’d expect to see Open workouts, so you can get plenty of practice and sharpen your skills!

Congrats to our crew to took on the @hyroxuk race in Manchester yesterday!
🏃‍♀️🏃🏃‍♂️

All the individual and pairs have it their all and cheered each other on through the running, rowing, skiing, sledding and other fun fitness things!

@hyroxuk returns to London at the end of April and, with divisions for varying levels of a ability, is great way to give yourself an accessible challenge. Shout out if you’re keen to rep @mvmt_lbs at the London race! ✌️

Personalised coaching tailored to your individual needs and goals!⁠

New at the end of last year, our EXTRA CREDIT PROGRAMME serves those with specific objectives: from marathon training to muscle ups - our coaches are here to guide you to your goals. Everyone is different and sometimes you want to put a little more into whatever matters to you the most, that’s where you need to get some extra credit!⁠
⁠
Examples of what we could help with include (but are not limited to):⁠
⁠
- Endurance events like 5ks, triathlons or long rides⁠
- CrossFit comp skills like kipping work or breaking pistols, handstand press-ups, muscle ups etc⁠
- Specific work for strength gains or Olympic weightlifting⁠
- Training tailored for aesthetics (gaining muscle, getting leaner etc)⁠
- Working through and rehabbing limitations like imbalances, niggles or injuries⁠
⁠
How it works⁠
- Consultation with a coach to discuss your goals, current training set up and priorities⁠
- In person session with a coach for assessment and to take you through your plan⁠
- Personalised training programme⁠
- Video upload for feedback, weekly feedback from your coach, monthly check ins and programme updates and quarterly in person sessions for reassessment⁠
- Often done in collaboration with other members of the team (if it’s anything to do with gaining / losing weight we’ll work with our nutrition coach Sara, it’s to do with limitations or injuries we’ll work with our in house osteopath Mariana)⁠

What this isn’t:⁠
- Only for advanced trainees⁠
- Restricted to certain types of goals⁠
- A replacement for our general programme⁠
- A template programme that you’re left to execute on your own⁠

This service is provided for £70 a month (expect to pay around £200 for other online remote coaching offerings) and we're releasing 5 more spaces on the programme in February - so DM for a free consult on what you'd like to work on!

Recovery - likely the biggest thing you could leverage to make progress in training and build a healthy body and mind.⁠ 💪 🧠

For many of us it's normal to think about starting / increasing exercise at this time of year. But it's the time in between training sessions where we have the opportunity to restore our bodies, build longevity and where the gains are really made! ⁠⠀

Sometimes this means total rest, but can also be pro-active: at Movement Labs we do mobility work, breathwork and even cold exposure to enhance joint health, reduce stress and even improve sleep and your immune system.⁠⠀

If you’re new to the community it’s a great way to get to know everyone and you don’t even have to work out to get involved (although there may be some physical challenge rounds… 😬)
