Working Out

Consider the evolution of these 3 statements you often hear when faced with a challenge, change or big decision:

“It’ll work out”

And maybe it will…

“I’ll work it out”

Sometimes you need to take some action, ownership and accountability. However, this presupposes there is an “it” to work out; a single, perfect solution to what is often a more complex and changeable issue, and going it alone can get tough.

“We’ll work something out”

No great change or impact was achieved without a collective effort and holding space for change on the journey there might just give you the best chance of working something out!

Going from A to B

If you’re engaged in training, watching what your eat or any other such behaviours, it’s likely you’re interested in some kind of outcome: let’s call it B. And given that you’re not there yet, you must be somewhere else: let’s call it A. We’re all on some kind of journey out there, but when it comes to health and fitness, why is it so damn difficult to make it to B? The problem could be in all 3 parts of this equation.

A is tricky because an honest look at where we truly are with our health and habits is sometimes more challenging (or even painful) then we think. B can be just as tough because we often shoot for what we think our goals SHOULD be, adopt others objectives or simply never get a clear picture of what we’re aiming for. If this is the case, it’ll be tough to stay committed long enough to see good things happen.

And then there’s the bit in between. When we’re taking geometry, the shortest distance between two points is a straight line. However in fitness, training and indeed life, this is rarely the case. Instead picture a roller coaster of ups and downs, fits and starts; it even goes backwards sometimes. It’s a shapeshifting path where what gets you moving, doesn’t necessarily keep you moving and even if you had even if you had a clear aim to begin with, it’s likely to become a moving target as you approach.

Our purpose here isn’t to be pessimistic. We’re laying this out because the biggest challenge is that we’re told from all angles to “do this plan to lose this” and “follow this routine to gain that”, never with any context of our own situations. But until we take a good, honest look at our very own A to B, the only thing we’re likely to gain is frustration.
